Loch Afro American Horror Story Mixtape blog #7: Who is Loch?

Who is Loch and why should anybody care? I feel like any good MC/hero/anti hero/ horror icon should have a good background story. I have been told that sometimes my music is so technical ppl may not feel like they know the real me. I think I have plenty of songs about my personal life but, I have never done a totally personal project. My angle in hip hop has always been that I was a fan of the craft of rapping. Some of my favorite artists, besides Tupac and Eminem weren't really that personal. My favorite MCs of all time have always been the technical Mcs like Rakim,Ras Kass,All the members of Slaughterhouse(besides Budden who's super personal but, still a favorite),Nas,Wu Tang, Monch, Kurupt etc.I wasn't the biggest follower of autobiographical rap. But, I gained a respect for those artists who could bare their souls.

The other thing is in my own way I feel like my random punchlines, flows, and cadences are glimpses inside my personality and what I'm tuned into. I get a lot of inspiration from real life, but I also get inspired by all high art. I love great story telling and finding ways to talk about something unrealistic, but the overall theme is really a break down of the world. What I  mean is I love how a show like Dexter can be about a serial killer, but regular ppl can relate to living double lives, having pressure from family, and having addictions. Or even parables like in The Bible that are stories that explain some moral virtue.

I've always been more of a technical MC than a personality or image based rapper. That may be my best and worse asset. It's bad because maybe ppl don't feel like they know who Loch is while I'm trying to have wordplay and be as witty as possible. But, it can be good if I can make something that seems technical feel personal with the right story telling. Even though Afro American Horror Story or Afro American Psycho may not be direct, simplified, everyday life type of projects they're still pieces of my thoughts and my attempt to free my talent. I don't want to just spell everything out.Like any good horror movie or psychological thriller, everything can't be just handed to the audience.

So, if you want to know the real Loch, do some listening and I believe it's there in my body of work. I do plan on doing something more down to earth than Afro American Psycho after it though. Something more soulful, street, and personal, but until then I got to let my morbid, pessimistic side out. I also feel like I lose some lyricism while trying to be personal because, being personal takes some type of simplicity. maybe I'll just feel better so the music will be more introspective than brooding.Until next blog.peace

Loch Afro American Horror Story mixtape blog #6:Remarkable

You have to do something worth talking about to be remarked about. So I need to be more remarkable.Word of mouth is the best form of promotion so I need the ppl who support me to tell everybody they know about me and my music. I once read something Chuck D said about even if an artist has 3-5 fans he has to work on making them paying fans before worrying about gaining more fans. So right now I am working on solidifying true fans and staying in contact w/ them. It's all about my mailing list. I'm trying to get true supporters to hit me at Loch121@yahoo.com and join my mailing list.Just email me and say you want to be on my mailing list. This is very important for an artist.

My next step is to encourage my supporters to be active.I need comments on my youtube freestyles, videos and on all the blogs I'm featured on.I know everybody hates signing into things but, a lot of places let you sign in w/ twitter or FB. I also need retweets when I send links out. I need my psychos to be vocal about Loch music and put my music and videos on their social networks and profiles. I also need more support from my circle but, that's a whole blog in itself.

Bottom line. I really appreciate anybody who takes the time to check out my music and I want to keep you all plugged in to everything I'm doing. I'm on every major social network site damn near so follow me on everything and help Loch bring this terror to this industry. In return, I promise to only get better and bring more good music to the supporters. Paying doesn't always mean money. My supporters can pay me with spreading the word. Thanks for anybody who has ever said a kind word about me or my music.

I want to start doing mass timed retweets. When I send a link out at a certain time I need my supporters to retweet it all at the same damn time. The same damn time. The same damn time.Oh sorry. Anyway check me out follow and subscribe to all my sites and Move Rite.

Afro American Horror Story Mixtape blog #5 Jay Z gave Foxy gonorrhea and is gay?

First of all, I doubt the story is real or true, but some gossip sites posted a rant by Foxy Brown saying Jay Z gave her the clap, is gay and was having relations w/ Larry Johnson,  did a threesome w/ Jamie Foxx, and is a tranny chaser, and is a chester the molester who took her virginity at 15. The story is not backed up is a yr old and been floating around, and Foxy has never publicly said this so, I'm calling Bullshit on it until varified. Why did I name this blog this you may ask and why am I talking about this?

Yesterday somebody mentioned this rumor to me on the phone and I googled it and sent the link out to twitter, because I put things on my timeline about hip hop. When I sent the link out I got like 25 retweets fast.It may have even been more. So I asked myself, why is it that everybody wanted to retweet this story but, when I send out my music or freestyles I only get maybe 2-5 retweets and that takes a while to get? There are many reasons for this but, do you really want to know why that is?

Let's get to the obvious, Jay Z is very famous, One of the best MC's ever, and is married to Beyonce. Now, I would say yes just Jay Z's name caused a fuss and was the reason for the retweets, but I put links to many stories about Jay on my timeline, and they never get that reaction. Now let's ask is my music or product good enough to cause a mass retweet? Not for me to say. Mostly the reaction to my music is positive but, I'm in a small pond so maybe if exposed to more ppl, they wouldn't like me or my music. For arguments sake though, let's say I'm averagely talented, why were ppl drawn to that story more than the constant music, freestyles, and info on my music I put out?

The answer is ppl love scandal, controversy, and gossip more than positivity or talent. I put the link up also about Jay opening his stadium and there was no storm of mentions and retweets. Ppl love to see a train wreck. We live in a reality show, celeb chaser, prey on my downfall society. So this is leading into why I chose the theme of horror and dark comedy for these projects I'm doing, Afro American Horror Story mixtape and Afro American Psycho.PLUG!!!

Like I said last blog.I'm kind of a troll. I happen to really love horror and dark humor for real but, I also know these things make ppl uncomfortable, especially black ppl. You have to do something wild in some way to get a response. Nowadays it's more about everything you do when you're not rapping that makes ppl take interest. I want my talent to speak to ppl more than imagery but, it's very needed. Hip Hop has been running some of the same cliche's for yrs. I want to kill that.I want to make something cinematic, horrible, beautiful, grim, and hilarious. I want to go psycho on the game with bars and give ppl a view into my mind. Maybe 1 day if I work hard, make the right music, and form that connection w/ ppl, I will get 25 retweets in 5 mins.

Afro American Horror Story Mixtape blog #4:The Horror

To me a good horror movie is never about what it seems on the surface. Usually a horror movie is about some social fear or change put into a horror form.Like Frankenstein was really about science turning against man and Jason is based on the serial killers and street crimes of the late 70's and 80's. That's what I love about art, the ability to explain life in abstract ways.

Right now for the most part it's scary out here for ppl. Money is hard to come by or keep. Me, I'm fearful of not making it and what will happen if I don't.A lot of Afro American Horror Story and Afro American Psycho is me disgusted at the industry and myself for not knowing how to get money from this thing we call music. I'll admit, I'm trolling.I want a response, any response. If you don't love it hate it but, recognize it exists.

Another thing that has been bothering me is ppl expecting me to snap my fingers and be on MTV,BET, and on the radio.A lot of that has to do with these signed artists being billed as indie while the real indie artists are made to look bad because we're not buzzing like whoever the new sensation is. I can't compete w/ the buzz of some artist with major backing but, I have no choice. That's a horror story for your ass

The question is how to monetize all the things me and my ppl do.If you don't know, we have a radio show on blogtalkradio called The Evening Erb which comes on Mon and Weds. at 6pm-8pm, We all have solo careers in music, and we all are on social media, out networking, and just doing all we can. A lot of forces in my life want me to give up on music. IDK if my 15 mins are up or if I'm just not doing the right things. While I know this is a hard game I also feel like good music and the right business plan should almost insure some result.

I just want my shot then I'll shut the fuck up and go to my office cubby at some wack job, but I got to know for a fact there is no way I'm getting in this game. Like 2 days ago I was sick and pissed off at life and ended up on 50 Cent's Boo Boo Tv, Thanks 50 and Paperchaser. The thing is of course being on a blog or site doesn't make you a star or pay you but, it is a sign somebody likes what you do. There are ppl who that never happens to. They drop music and nobody cares at all. I just don't have enough ppl caring.

For me the 9 to 5 life and that cubby is the scariest thing.Normalcy scares me.Being stuck in one place scares me. The more ppl try to tell me I'm crazy for still trying to do music after so many false starts and let downs the harder I want to prove them wrong and only end up proving them right when things go bad. What do you do when the only thing you ever wanted to do seems like the one thing you can't do?

I be hearing dudes talking about they just started rapping 2 days ago and got on while I been through everything you can and still can't get a check but, know for a fact I'm talented. Why should I clean bathrooms or punch a clock for life when I got a million dollar talent? I just refuse to quit.I won't be backed down. I would quit if not for the supporters.S/O to all the blogs and sites and ppl who check for me, the rest of you can play in traffic. So these projects are my anger, fear, dark humor, and pain put in musical horror form.

Afro American Horror Story blog #3:Motivation

Part of the reason why I chose a horror theme is because at the time my life is kind of horrible. I came up w/ Afro American Psycho first and once I saw the show American Horror Story and realized I could slap Afro in front of it too it became the mixtape and Afro American Psycho is the project that will follow. When I came up with the concept I was at a dark place and still am, maybe even a worse place.I could relate to Patrick Bateman, the star of American Psycho in a way. He was on Wallstreet which was materialistic, greedy, and about decadence. I'm in hip hop which is materialistic, greedy, and about decadence. We both seem to fit in the norm somewhat but, inside there is a certain distance and alienation.Like Wallstreet, hip hop has become so cliche' that everybody looks and acts the same. But, why was I in such a dark place?

I have never been a 9-5 worker but, have always managed to keep money. I like most of America was doing pretty good for myself until about 2009 when my money got funny and the life I had led was ending. It was driving me crazy to see all the yrs of hardwork just dwindle before my eyes and the more I tried to fight it the worse it got. So you won't hear me talking about balling anytime soon because I'm simply not anymore. The other reason I was in a dark place was that I felt like Patrick Bateman in the sense that he murders ppl. I murder mics and nobody really notices either of us doing our killings or are too caught up in their materialism to even care.

So yeah instead of this sad "oh I want to rap and I'm depressed" project I chose to do something different that would be entertaining for you and therapy for me. I guess misery loves company because if I gotta feel this way somebody else needs their day ruined by my sickness or somebody in a dark place can hear my music and know they're not alone and get a laugh out of what I'm doing.Money is an issue for most ppl these days and I'm hurting.I want to make a living off of music but, I don't have control of that really. I can only do things I hope will help my buzz and career and keep working.

It's hard to try to do this music full time, keep money, going back to school, oh and I got a girlfriend(whole blog of itself). Right now I'm living a horror movie facing a total restructuring. I think most ppl at my age facing what I'm going through would give up but, I like horror so I like the torture.

Afro American Horror Story blog #2:Marketing

I have learned a lot about marketing through trial and error. Marketing is finding your fanbase and promoting to them consistently with the same imagery and ideas. It's branding and being able to sale products off your brand. This brings me to my new projects Afro American Horror Story and Afro American Psycho. Why have a chosen a TV show and a movie title for project names? The simple reason is I love great movies and TV shows and specifically horror films. While looking up movies and TV shows I realized there was a whole world of TV and movie buffs and they also listen to music. I also love film and plots and wanted my music to be more cinematic.

Marketing and promotion are the name of the game. As an indie artist w/out a major budget sometimes it's hard to tell if a song just isn't good enough or the marketing and promo just aren't good enough. It's not easy to be unbiased about your own music. You have 2 types of artists, those who love everything they do and those who are critical of everything they do. I think I'm somewhere in the middle, because there are songs I have I don't like and others I just don't understand why they're not hits. I know for me marketing is something you have to do but, how do you market yourself?

For me like I said I kind of just did things and saw how they worked. The first thing I did in the internet world was Myspace and being on Allhiphop.com's comment board. Since then few sites will let you promo or spam but, back in like 2008 a lot of artists weren't doing that. I was always actually involved in the conversations and would comment before spamming. i then started doing weekly freestyles to popular beats because there was a freestyle challenge on the board.I kept doing them every week for over a year. What started to happen was ppl started to listen on the board then Steve Raze from Allhiphop allowed me to send him music after politely bothering him for months. Thanks Steve.  I started to notice ppl were peeping my freestyles more than my real music videos and started seeing that ppl just wanted me to spit and be lyrical more than try to make music for the radio. Thanks Youtube.

So now, I'm doing these projects for the supporters who love lyrics. I'm not easy to market. I was born in Detroit. Michigan and came to ATL when I was about 10 yrs old. Even though I was raised in ATL I always kept my up north attitude and found other ppl who shared some of my background. This led to a false belief that everybody was as diverse as me and my friends, not true. We were from everywhere from NY to Cali and in between so my musical taste is odd.One minute it's Jeezy the next it's Royce or Budden. Sometimes it's hard for me to know what beats best suite me because my musical taste is so scattered.

What I do know is there are ppl like Loch who love hip hop, music, weed, women, and movies/TV and have dark senses of humor.I only care about the ppl who get it. @loch121

Afro American Horror Story blog #1:That Horror shit ain't swag

So I am dropping a mixtape called Afro American Horror Story hosted by legendary DJ DJ Doo Wop.I'm making this and the project that follows,Afro American Psycho to be what ppl want from me as an artist and what is true to my talent. No female songs,or club songs,or radio songs just lyrics. I'm not focused on the ATL market so it frees up my imagination.

It is a return to my battle,Detroit, horrorcore based music.I hate the term horrorcore but, ppl will call it that and it has the name of a Horror show and has horror in the title so I expect that. I'm working on how to properly drop a project.I need reviews from anywhere that will do them, blog posts for the songs, and word of mouth from my supporters.

The reason why I chose this horror theme is because my youtube freestyles are what draw ppl to me on the net and because I always was slightly horror influenced my name Loch is short for Warloch. As far as the youtube videos they are basically me torturing MCs for 3 verses.Ppl like those freestyles almost more than my music so to avoid doing a project of random battle raps I wanted to put the lyrics to use to paint a picture.it's also cool because this is more my lane than doing radio songs, not to say I won't do any.

This is meant to be the mythology of my horror icon in a hip hop form. It's more psychological thriller than slasher flick. It's not shock value just because. It's a mirror on the dark side of ppl and seeing how far I can take my craft.

Come to the dark Afro American Horror Story hosted by DJ Doo Wop coming soon.
